Description
Silver Lake, in the Eastern Sierra of California, has been a favorite mountain retreat for fishermen since 1916. It remains so today. But, I love being there in the fall, early enough in the day to watch the sunrise as it creeps over June Mountain. The aspen that hug the shoreline get the sun rays showcasing their brilliant colors of gold changing for the seasons finale. The line up of the backlit fishing boats appearing as silhouettes and the sunlight hitting the tie down lines helped to frame my image.
The lake and others in the June Lake Loop along with several nearby streams, offer up some of the largest trout in the Eastern Sierra. Fishing is good from shore, a float tube or a boat. To make your visit more enjoyable, Silver Lake Resort has a fleet of fishing boats for your convenience to rent. The Fall is my favorite time to rent a boat as viewing the changing colors of the autumn leaves help to pass the time until the fish bite.
