Description
Elephants are fond of water and enjoy showering by sucking water into their trunks and spraying it all over themselves. Afterwards, they often spray their skin with a protective coating of dust.Elephants use mud as a sunscreen, protecting their skin from ultraviolet light. Although tough, their skin is very sensitive. Without the regular mud baths to protect it from burning, insect bites, and moisture loss, their skin suffers serious damage. Unlike the wild ones, this beauty was protected in the San Diego Zoo.The work of San Diego Zoo Global is committed to saving species from the brink of extinction.
