Description

Isla de Janitzio is the main island of Lake Pátzcuaro in the state of Michoacán, Mexico. The town of Janitzio, which means "where it rains", is located atop the hill.The statue of José María Morelos – a hero of Mexico's independence campaign – stands 40-meters high and is located on the highest and most central point of the island. The impressive monument was built in 1933. We visited the island for lunch having navigated our way through many fishing boats on the lake just before another afternoon rainshower drenched the area.
