Description
Having been privileged to witness wild herds of zebras in Africa, it's with mixed emotion that I photographed this black and white beauty in captivity as it was about to drink from a water trough. At the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens it was standing in front of a chain link fence, which I felt compelled to blacken digitally, as it was about to drink water from a trough.. Could have titled it, Don't Fence Me In, but the Grevy's zebra doesn't form herds like other equines; instead one male defends a small territory with a watering hole. Their predators are primarily lions and African wild dogs, from which they are free in the zoo, as is this one.
