On an early October morning, a very brisk, windy seven degree weather front blew away the season's first storm in Mammoth Lakes. It revealed a light dusting of snow to showcase this full moon setting over the mountain just before sunrise.
Mammoth Mountain is located within the town of Mammoth Lakes, California, in the Inyo National Forest of Mono County. Its Eastern California location is near the world famous Yosemite National Park. The Mammoth Ski Resort, on Mammoth Mountain is, well, Mammoth! A mammoth vertical drop, huge snowfalls and the sheer size of the Mammoth Mountain Resort all add up to make it one of the biggest, best, and my favorite ski resorts in California and indeed the US.
Since childhood, Aristotle's quote, "Where there is no vision, the people perish," has been a huge influence on me. I continue to extend and interpret its meaning through my photography as I capture images that hopefully inspire, amuse and gladden. At the same time, perhaps my images will also help document the beauty of Mother Nature and our responsibility to care for her. Following a three decade career in public education, as a teacher and then principal for the Los Angeles Unified School District, I began a new career quite serendipitously as a professional landscape, wildlife and jazz photographer of California's majestic Eastern Sierra mountains.
