Alerted to an avalanche warning forecast by our local radio station in mid February, I headed out to a safe zone just off Highway 395 near McGee Creek, near Crowley Lake in hopes of capturing this possible snow event as it moved down the mountainside. The avalanche had indeed already occurred prior to my arrival but was indeed visible from Highway 395. I was able to set up my equipment just off the roadside but to be clear, it sure was cold! Also, it was challenging to keep the camera lens from fogging. You can see the wind chill coming off the ridge.
Eastern Sierra resorts, during the winter seasons, are usually heavily blanketed in snow and therefore also susceptible to avalanche events. They occur in their neighboring mountain ranges anytime but usually through the December to April months.
Since childhood, Aristotle's quote, "Where there is no vision, the people perish," has been a huge influence on me. I continue to extend and interpret its meaning through my photography as I capture images that hopefully inspire, amuse and gladden. At the same time, perhaps my images will also help document the beauty of Mother Nature and our responsibility to care for her.
