This affectionate bear scene was captured with a long lens through a window from my hillside residence. When not hibernating, they were often spotted there romping and climbing the trees. Most residents of Mammoth Lakes believe that bears can mutually coexist with humans if we let them be bears in nature and not let them eat human foods. To do this, the town promotes a media campaign to "NOT FEED OUR BEARS," by encouraging visitors and residents to display bumper stickers with the printed slogan. Hopefully, the bears won't become dependent on us for food. Trash dumpsters must be locked and food should not be visible in unattended vehicles.
Since childhood, Aristotle's quote, "Where there is no vision, the people perish," has been a huge influence on me. I continue to extend and interpret its meaning through my photography as I capture images that hopefully inspire, amuse and gladden. At the same time, perhaps my images will also help document the beauty of Mother Nature and our responsibility to care for her.
