This unusual tree was planted at the Hotel del Coronado prior to the turn of the century where it thrives in the temperate southern California coast of San Diego. The tree was used as backdrop in the movie, Some Like it Hot which was filmed in 1958. Peaking out of the top right and corner of my image is one of the hotel 's turrets flying the US flag.

Since childhood, Aristotle's quote, "Where there is no vision, the people perish," has been a huge influence on me. I continue to extend and interpret its meaning through my photography as I capture images that hopefully inspire, amuse and gladden. At the same time, perhaps my images will also help document the beauty of Mother Nature and our responsibility to care for her. Following a three decade career in public education, as a teacher and then principal for the Los Angeles Unified School District, I began a new career quite serendipitously as a professional landscape, wildlife and jazz photographer of California's majestic Eastern Sierra mountains.
