Sometimes, the forest has eyes. Other moments even faces appear reflecting the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. Captured this snow covered aspen bark image through my car's open window while driving around a secluded rural residential neighborhood in Mammoth Lakes, California. This setting was found on an unplowed, old mammoth dirt road. I loved the texture and colors of the earth tones blanketed by snow on the trees and the cabin's rooftop. It's a wonder that anything survives the depth of the harsh winter snow falls.
Since childhood, Aristotle's quote, "Where there is no vision, the people perish," has been a huge influence on me. I continue to extend and interpret its meaning through my photography as I capture images that hopefully inspire, amuse and gladden. At the same time, perhaps my images will also help document the beauty of Mother Nature and our responsibility to care for her. Following a three decade career in public education, as a teacher and then principal for the Los Angeles Unified School District, I began a new career quite serendipitously as a professional landscape, wildlife and jazz photographer of California's majestic Eastern Sierra mountains.
